The next three and a half years, KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation will lead the innovative ASCENT project, which stands for Adherence Support Coalition to End TB. This brand new project is funded by Unitaid through a grant of almost US$ 14 million and will be implemented in five different countries (Ethiopia, Tanzania, the Philippines, South Africa and Ukraine). It will support TB patients during their treatment with digital adherence technologies. These groundbreaking innovations have great added value for both patients and caregivers.

The 10th IAS Conference on HIV Science – known as IAS 2019 – will take place on 21-24 July 2019 in Mexico City, Mexico. The IAS Conference on HIV Science is the world’s most influential meeting on HIV research and its applications. This biennial conference presents the critical advances in basic, clinical and operational research that moves science into policy and practice. Through its open and inclusive programme development, the meeting sets the gold standard of HIV research featuring highly diverse and cutting-edge studies.

JOHANNESBERG, SOUTH AFRICA - An innovative system to dispense medicine to patients with chronic illnesses is taking off in South Africa. The award-winning “Pelebox,” created by South African engineer Neo Hutiri, is a computer-controlled vending machine stocked with prescription drugs, which patients
access using a personal code.

Working together, The Aurum Institute and UnlockD decrease the spread of HIV and reduce the high levels of youth unemployment through a large-scale holistic program which equips youth from heavily-burdened communities with knowledge and education about HIV and AIDS; skills development and work experience in healthcare facilities across South Africa.

On the 1st November, organisations around the continent celebrated Africa Youth Day. Last year the African Union Heads of State and Government declared the theme for 2017 as ‘Harnessing the Demographic Dividend through Investments in Youth’.
