Dr Yuri van der Heijden
MD, MPH
Dr Yuri van der Heijden is an infectious diseases specialist and a Senior Researcher at Aurum. He is also an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, USA.
He has a long-standing interest in global health. His primary research objective is to optimize the care of patients with tuberculosis, with a focus on multidrug-resistant tuberculosis. He is currently collaborating with several investigators in different areas of South Africa to study the clinical and molecular epidemiology of drug-resistant tuberculosis, limitations and opportunities for improvement in programmatic tuberculosis data, and the influence of co-morbidities on tuberculosis outcomes. His medical and masters of public health degrees are from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and he has a bachelor of science degree from Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, USA.
