Health Programmes
Health Programmes is the largest of Aurum’s divisions, with 1 300 people employed in administration and data support, counselling, clinical roles and community engagement.
Public Health Division
Aurum’s Public Health Division delivers impactful, community-based health programmes across South Africa. We work with government and partners to strengthen health systems, improve access to services, and respond to public health priorities.
The Accelerate TB Elimination and Program Resilience Activity (ACCELERATE) supports South Africa’s efforts to achieve TB elimination through early detection, appropriate treatment and care, and prevention among vulnerable populations, particularly those infected with drug susceptible TB (DS-TB), drug resistant TB (DR-TB), or TB/HIV co-infection. ACCELERATE 1 implemented by The Aurum Institute in Gauteng (Tshwane and Sedibeng districts), KwaZulu-Natal (Uthukela and Amajuba districts), and the Eastern Cape (Nelson Mandela Bay, Joe Gqabi, Sarah Baartman).
The Global Fund programme, implemented by The Aurum Institute as a Sub-Recipient (SR) of the Global TB Grant (April 2022–March 2025), targets South Africa’s high TB burden. It focuses on 12 districts that account for over 50% of the nation's missing TB cases.
As a NACOSA sub-recipient, Aurum supports COVID-19 vaccination efforts in the Drakenstein Sub-District, Cape Winelands, through outreach and facility-based support.
Aurum deployed 65 counsellors to 27 facilities across five sub-districts, delivering HIV testing, health talks, and support for test-and-treat strategies (ULAM and TUTT).
Operating in Mangaung (Free State) and Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati (North West), Aurum uses a hybrid VMMC model combining roving teams and a GP network. We exceeded our 2022 target by 160%, performing 4,330 procedures. Demand creation includes radio, social media, and community outreach.
Launched in 2014, Aurum’s MDP builds management and leadership capacity across South Africa’s health system. The programme equips operational, ward, district, and correctional services managers with practical tools to lead high-performing teams and improve service delivery. Using a blended learning model of classroom training and onsite mentoring, MDP has trained over 1,000 managers across five provinces. Graduates have driven improvements in Ideal Clinic and OHSC compliance. The programme has also been adapted for community-based organisations and internal leadership development, marking a decade of impact in 2024.
Aurum’s QI approach embeds continuous improvement into daily health service delivery. Our 4A’s QI model — Assess, Act, Analyse, Anchor empowers health workers to use data, identify gaps, and test solutions for sustainable change. With over 40 trained QI staff, including certified Improvement Advisors, we support national, provincial, and facility-level teams through mentoring, coaching, and collaborative learning. Our systemic, data-driven model strengthens health systems by fostering integration, responsiveness, and lasting impact across the North West and beyond.
Health System Division
The Health Systems Division is dedicated to strengthening public healthcare across South Africa, with a significant focus on the North West province. Through strategic partnerships with the Department of Health, the division enhances service delivery in districts such as Bojanala, Dr Kenneth Kaunda, and Ngaka Modiri Molema. By deploying trained clinical staff, refining data management practices, and implementing rigorous monitoring and evaluation, the division ensures continuous improvement in care quality and accessibility. These efforts are instrumental in achieving impactful care and treatment outcomes throughout the region.
