Director: Group Communications

Ms Kanya Ndaki

BA Hons Journalism and Media

Ms Kanya Ndaki is a communications executive with 20 years of journalism and communications experience; thirteen of which were as an award-winning journalist and editor.

More recently, she was Head of Communications at the South African National AIDS Council (SANAC), where she was responsible for providing strategic communication direction to all SANAC units and structures. Ms Ndaki has led the development and implementation of complex communications strategies for a variety of stakeholders at global, regional and national levels. She has significant experience in managing events and media relations, including risk and reputational management issues, coupled with exceptional experience in writing and editing a variety of communications materials including press releases, corporate publications, policy briefs and social media content for diverse audiences.

Ms Ndaki has worked as Regional Editor for the UN’s global humanitarian news service IRIN News (now The New Humanitarian) and covered a broad range of humanitarian and development issues. As IRIN’s, specialist HIV/AIDS reporter, she co-founded PlusNews, IRIN’s dedicated HIV/AIDS news service in 2001.

She has also worked for Health-e news service, providing media with features and analysis on Public Health and HIV/AIDS. She has also been involved in training journalists on health reporting and is contributing author of the book "The Virus Vitamins and Vegetables: the South African HIV/AIDS mystery" a collection of essays by some of South Africa’s foremost HIV/AIDS writers, doctors, and activists on HIV and AIDS denialism in South Africa. Ms Ndaki studied Journalism at Rhodes University and has an Honours degree in Journalism and Media Studies from the University of Witwatersrand.

As the Director of Group Communications, Ms Ndaki is the key ambassador for Aurum responsible for managing all communications activities and building external relationships with Aurum’s stakeholders.
