On the 1st November, organisations around the continent celebrated Africa Youth Day. Last year the African Union Heads of State and Government declared the theme for 2017 as ‘Harnessing the Demographic Dividend through Investments in Youth’.
There are different definitions of youth. The United Nations define youth as those between 15-24 years old. While the African Union define youth as those between 15-35 years old. As an African organisation, Aurum defines youth as those between 15-35 years old.- Aurum UnlockD The Aurum UnlockD Initiative is an collaborative project between the Aurum Institute and UnlockD which aims to decrease the spread of HIV and reduce the high levels of youth unemployment through a holistic program which aims to provide learners with 1-year of skills development and work experience through a learnership. The project has kicked off successfully with 60 learners based in Ekurhuleni fulfilling different roles from lay counsellors, tracers, data capturers and filing clerks. We also have 20 learners in the North West who are currently undergoing training by Aurum staff and will be based at the facilities within this month.

Aurum and Youth
It is clear to see that Aurum is doing a lot of tangible impact work for youth everywhere. And with an average employee age of 35, it is clear to see why.
