Aurum supports SAHTAC AGM 2023

Prof Geoffrey Setswe, Aurum Managing Director for Implementation Research Division and Director for Communications, Kanya Ndaki presented in the South African Health Technologies Advocacy Coalition (SAHTAC) Annual General meeting.

SAHTAC is a coalition that supports evidence-based policy change and implementation, improved coordination of health research and development funding mechanisms, and a coordinated advocacy approach. Aurum is the current secretariat providing general administrative support to the coalition and serves as the chair of coalition meetings. Aurum also works with the core group to facilitate communication, sharing of information, and assure adherence to membership guidelines. It is also responsible for financial management, monitoring and evaluation as well as governance and transparency.

Prof Setswe opened the AGM with a welcome note and introduction and provided coalition members with an overview of SAHTAC goals, objectives and agenda. “As part of the Leadership at Aurum, where the SAHTAC Secretariat is based, I warmly welcome you to the SAHTAC AGM. Since last year, I have been actively involved as a SAHTAC Advocate providing information and evidence at seminars and conferences in the continent to advocate for funding and support for health technologies. As a fellow Health Technology Advocate, I welcome you to the AGM,”

Ms Ndaki rendered practical exercises in developing and firming up our coalition advocacy messages for different audiences including stakeholders, partners, and funders.

The overall AGM objectives were to review and reflect on 2022 successes, activities against planned initiatives and the set indicators, to examine challenges and areas of improvement, along with learning and strengthening the coalitions advocacy approach and to set priorities for 2023.

Additionally, John Mdluli, Aurum Head of Department: Community and SAHTAC Lead facilitated the AGM.
